Where the Light Remembered
Where the Light Remembered
Some memories never truly fade. They simply wait for a familiar scent, a beam of sunlight, or the crackling sound of a fire to bring them back to life.
This photograph was taken in my parents' old farmhouse, hidden deep within the forests of Lithuania. On that day, my mother was sitting quietly at the table while my father prepared homemade wine, food, and the fire for an evening barbecue. As the fireplace came to life, smoke briefly filled the room, revealing beautiful rays of sunlight streaming through the windows. It lasted only a few minutes, but it created one of the most magical scenes I have ever witnessed.
Outside, the forest was alive. Birds sang like an orchestra at sunrise, bees drifted through the wildflowers, hawks circled high above the fields, and it was not unusual to see deer, wild boar, or even a majestic moose wandering nearby.
Today, no one lives here anymore. The neighbours once told us that a bear had wandered into the homestead, knocked over three old beehives, and helped itself to the honey. Nature has slowly reclaimed the place, just as it always does.
For me, this photograph is more than an old house. It is a memory of my parents, of quiet evenings by the fire, of family, and of a corner of Lithuania that will always remain home in my heart.
