Beneath the Elder Tree

"Beneath the Elder Tree" was captured during one of Dublin's Halloween celebrations in Ireland—a moment so enchanting that, when I first looked at the photograph on my camera's display, I wondered if anyone would believe it hadn't been staged.

Everything felt wonderfully natural. The colours, the decorations, the old elder tree, and the joyful atmosphere came together as if they had been waiting for that very evening.

My wife and I were there together, wandering through the celebration, surrounded by laughter, costumes, and the excitement that only children can bring. Watching them was perhaps the most beautiful part of all. They looked at the world with endless curiosity and imagination, completely believing that magic might be hiding around the next corner.

It made me stop and think.

Their lives were only just beginning, while ours had already travelled many seasons. Life quietly reminds us that every generation follows another. Some people leave, others arrive, and every autumn tells the same timeless story of change.

Halloween has always carried a little mystery. It invites us to smile at the unknown, to remember those who came before us, and perhaps to wonder whether a few friendly spirits still wander beneath the old trees.
